Local World Table op Material Xperience 2010

One design fits all

10 Tables, 10 times different. One of the highlights on the event Material Xperience (27-29 Januari 2010, Ahoy, Rottaerdam) was the presentation of 10 new Local World tables; a ‘glocal’ (Global and Local) concept by designer Gerard der Kinderen. It’s all about 10 tables of each a different material, but all using the same construction, the Local World Table bracket. Tables using materials like, leather, bamboo, glass, zinc, acryl and epoxy resin. A visual and tactile spectacle.

Local World Table

The ‘Local World Table’ concept was developed with a strong focus on local materials and local production. The construction of the table, by means of an aluminium bracket, makes the table more or less ‘material quality independent’. The concept started with using local trees already chopped for different reasons. The concept evolved to suitable materials that are all environmentally friendly, sustainable and can be locally produced or processed. Using local materials reduces world transport and promotes the possibilities and appreciation of local materials. Local production, with local materials, by local fi rms, creating/keeping local jobs.
The design is exported by licensed use of the bracket and the design.
In The Netherlands The Dutch ‘Local World Tables’ are in the collection of the furniture label ZinX.
