The ‘Local World Table’ concept was developed with a strong focus on local materials and local production. The construction of the table, by means of an aluminium bracket, makes the table more or less ‘material quality independent’. The concept started with using local trees already chopped for different reasons. The concept evolved to suitable materials that are all environmentally friendly, sustainable and can be locally produced or processed. Using local materials reduces world transport and promotes the possibilities and appreciation of local materials. Local production, with local materials, by local fi rms, creating/keeping local jobs.
The design is exported by licensed use of the bracket and the design.
In The Netherlands The Dutch ‘Local World Tables’ are in the collection of the furniture label ZinX®.

LR_ZinX_LocalWorldTable_bracket_eikenaLuc Deleau (Tuttobene) about the Local World Table design concept:

The world has become a village. Not because our village looks the same all over the world but because we are able to share and apply ideas to our local situation.
The ‘Local World Table’ by Gerard der Kinderen is the fruit of that thought; the concept of a table of which the appearance differs locally. He, who - so to say - plants his idea somewhere, harvests a different table, depending on local conditions in that part of the world. The idea is simple and effective.
Gerard der Kinderen delivers the design drawings and the four brackets with which a table can be produced, no matter what material you use. Depending on the local crafts, specialities and raw material a table arises that is different everywhere, but unmistakably bears the signature of Gerard der Kinderen.
The world as an artist’s studio. Each workshop a different execution; whether oak wood from the local forest, driftwood from the South Pacific, marble from Italy, or concrete and recycled plastic from the new mega cities is used.
